I love my cello so much that sometimes I burst into passionate outbreaks, where I grab it by its weist and dance around the house with it while singing.

The fact that Wagner never finished his Faust just kills me.

When I’m frustrated with my practicing and ready to give up, I pour my energy into playing major scales one by one: each ascending (C, C♯, D, D♯, …) and then each descending (B, B♭, A, A♭, …) until I feel confident enough to tackle practicing again. However, if I’m still particularly moody, I’ll make my way through the minor scales.

Sometimes, I wonder if I would have been a better musician if I were a violinist instead of a cellist. Especially after watching them play their fifty measures of 16th-note runs while I play quarter-notes every beat.

I had about $4 left on a gift card. I decided to spend it on a classical guitar compilation CD. Best present I’ve bought for myself recently!

The first time I heard “In Trutina” (from Carmina Burana), I listened to a classical crossover artist sing it. Even though crossover artists aren’t always strictly classical musicians, I don’t mind the crossover genre because it motivates me to listen to the original operatic/orchestral version.

Katherine Jenkins, Sarah Brightman, Jackie Evancho, and Andrea Bocelli are not opera singers. I hate it when people compared them to true musical artists like Kiri Te Kanawa, Lucia Popp, Cecilia Bartoli, Sumi Jo, and Renee Fleming.
